Love this feature. I’m a new writer here, and have wanted to use the chat feature to figure out what topics would resonate with my small reader community, but there was a friction of it just working on the app. Looking forward to using and engaging with this now! Thank you Substack team.
This sounds great! I’m not a writer but would welcome a chat it two! Curious question..today I got a drop down message from Substack saying something about sticking to a thread and not posting spam??? Huh??? Anybody else?
We always intended to launch chat on web; a ton of our most-engaged readers (and many writers) prefer to work on laptops / desktops, so we knew it was important, especially in cases where e.g. people want to be able to type very efficiently or incorporate workflows from their computer into their Chat usage (e.g. they want to edit and post photos and they use a Mac / PC to do those things).
App adoption has been very good so far, and we think it'll continue to grow well with what we're planning to ship over the next few months!
Also wondering about the technical interplay between the app and web. Will these be separate chats, or simultaneous? Will readers in the app see the comments on the web?
I’m confused. As a Substack author, can I now start a Chat with my free subscribers on the web app? I was planning to try that out, but then I think I saw a message saying this feature was no longer available (or something).
Yes you can use either your desktop and internet browser, your smartphone and internet browser, or use the Substack app (Apple and Android) to start chats now
Thanks, Bailey! But didn’t I see a comment from one of you folks saying that only Substack authors who’d already started using this new feature could continue to do so?
Love the feature and have implemented it today with my subscribers. Is there any way to sort the threads so that the newest replies can be seen? As of right now it seems we have to scroll to the newest replies. Thank you.
That's a nice feature. But as long as we are talking "the app" can you explain why the iOs version doesn't allow you to edit your comments if you see a typo?
Hi, sorry to report that the chat is unusable on Android tablets because about 1/3 of the right-side frame gets cut off on the right side of the screen. Please check your css on tablets. Feel free to contact me if you need screenshots or testing. Thanks!

Welcome, Suhel! We hope you like using Chat

Despite my best efforts, I’ve gotten no such messages from Substack.
I didn’t see that
It’s easy to get paranoid...I’m in FB jail a lot for simply disagreeing with the msm narrative , mostly COVID related.
FB Jail = Badge of Honour! Well done!
Hunter Biden jokes… Go immediately to Jail!! It’s hysterical!
Curious whether this means some readers just haven’t taken to the app?

Thank you 🙏 for the detailed response, Mills. Interesting, what you all are doing.

Simultaneous! Real time and live in both spaces.
Excellent!
This is wonderful! Thank you.
This is great! I have some ideas of doing a journaling mini course for writers and creatives. Could do the daily discussion of in chat threads!
I love this, I'm new here and still learning how to use this app
But I came across some interesting writers here
I even liked an Arabic one and recommended it if you read Arabic you can check it out and see what I'm talking about
This is wonderful! Substack making strides!
How do I unsubscribe? Thanks
Hey! You can unsubscribe at any time: https://on.substack.com/account?utm_source=user-menu

That's a great idea! Not yet. Right now it is sorted by top level chat chronologically
I’ve been waiting for this. Substack is where it’s at.
Great news!!!
Does it support other languages?
I'm so excited for this!
