The conversation expands in Chat, now on the web
It’s easier than ever to engage with the community around your favorite Substack writers
Today we are excited to share that Chat is now available on the web. Chat is a community space reimagined specifically for writers and readers—it’s like having a private group chat with your favorite writer and fellow subscribers who, like you, appreciate their work.
To visit Chat on the web, head to substack.com/chat.
When we launched Chat in November, thousands of writers, including
, , , , and more, started using it to engage in more frequent and intimate conversations with you—readers who love their work the most.Writers and their readers told us they wanted two things to make engaging in community easier and more meaningful: the ability for readers to start conversations in Chat and the ability to have these conversations on the web.
Today, we’re excited that writers can invite you, their subscribers, to start threads in Chat in the app as well as on the web. These two improvements make engaging with the community around your favorite writers easier than ever.
To celebrate this new era of Chat, some beloved Substack writers are opening their chats to subscribers to start the conversation. These writers are entrusting you, their readers, to help steward the community and spark vibrant discussions.

Love this feature. I’m a new writer here, and have wanted to use the chat feature to figure out what topics would resonate with my small reader community, but there was a friction of it just working on the app. Looking forward to using and engaging with this now! Thank you Substack team.
This sounds great! I’m not a writer but would welcome a chat it two! Curious question..today I got a drop down message from Substack saying something about sticking to a thread and not posting spam??? Huh??? Anybody else?
