The plum trees I planted in the summer are now starting to tentatively blossom. Lovely tosee, since they had a very difficult start to life in my garden
Melissa Mendes’ humor essays in Hot and Heavy leans into the silliness of life, banishing the shame that usually comes with these relatable vignettes. Armed with raw honesty, digestibility, and a David Sedaris-meets-Miranda July style of writing, she invites us into her thoughts—and suddenly, she’s in ours—urging us to find humor in the dark.
In a world obsessed with hyper-productivity, her writing inspires us to slow down, quiet our racing thoughts, and embrace the little details of the quotidian.
Thanks for introducing me to these new writers! Here’s a comedic essay about my parenting fails called “Perfect.” If you enjoy it, please share! https://katesusong.substack.com/p/perfect
Oh my goodness….such delicious thoughts ….I’ve been to Japan, and I’ve lived in Asia …rain on a tin roof…the flowering trees…flame of the forest such a wonderful collection of images …. Savory When around me i hear rude and crude…..Thank you so much
I would like to recommend Postcards from Canada. There is a tremendous amount of new Resistance and patriotic writing on Substack coming from Canada, in face of Trump's aggressive attempts to dominate a sovereign neighbour--a good neighbour btw!

Isn't 210° hot enough to roast a human being?
Love this. I need to read it again, more slowly. :)
