Megalopolis is a work of genius, it doesn’t need the box office or the critics, it needs people who can sit and see their world reflected: A Rome that is always about to fall or flourish. A battle between the dire needs of the present and the seemingly superfluous dreams of the future. We need both the pragmatist and the dreamer if we want to create something better, but anger and upset threaten to overturn the whole thing if it’s not better in time. It was a brilliant portrayal of our times in my opinion (and many of the times that have become before this one too!)

I find the gloating cruelty in the reaction to Megalopolis (“It bombed at the box office!”) to make part of the movie’s point. Preaching films always lose portions of their art, but the reason the artist feels the need to shout from the rooftops (at the risk of their art) is because we’re not listening.

Yeah, talking about the box office with regard to Megalopolis is really missing the point.

Coppola sold his winery to make it! He's not looking for a return on investment.

Laura Kennedy is nothing short of extravagantly brilliant. Lapidary prose. Amazing. Thank you!🙏

I remember hearing a song called "Synesthesia" in high school. I had never heard the word before and it led me to explore what it was about. This was such a cool look into it!

“So anyway I’ve inherited the gasp. I hate it so much, and every time it happens I think of my mother”

That’s an Irish mother

They all had tragic pasts

That’s the gasp…
