His first post tells the extraordinary story of his escape from the Taliban at age 16, followed by nearly a decade spent in refugee detention in Indonesia, where he learned fluent English and studied college-level psychology and creative writing via free resources accessed on the internet. Hussain’s long years of limbo will end on November 29, when he will arrive in Aotearoa New Zealand as a new migrant and permanent resident under a community sponsorship scheme. Kudos to Substack for giving this remarkable young writer a platform and a voice!
