I love these weekend recommendations! Also, I now subscribe to way too many (but also not enough) newsletters. Substack, can you help me organize my inbox? (I'm only partially joking.)
What does it mean to βromanticizeβ in modern-day vernacular? And is oversharing on social media the most unromantic thing of all?
To "romanticize" something in modern-day vernacular means to idealize or exaggerate the positive qualities of something, often in a way that is unrealistic or impractical. For example, someone might romanticize a particular place, person, or era in history, creating an idealized version of it in their mind that doesn't necessarily reflect reality.
In terms of oversharing on social media, some might argue that it is the most unromantic thing of all, as it can take away from the mystery and allure that often accompanies romantic relationships. When people share too much information about their personal lives on social media, it can make their relationships feel less special or unique, and can also make it easier for others to judge or criticize them. That being said, it ultimately depends on personal preferences and boundaries, as some people may feel comfortable sharing more than others.
I really recommend checking out this week's post from Psychology Onions, it's a little bit dark but a super honest account of what it's like living with OCD and the different content areas that can flare up around current events like the launch of ChatGPT and various AI tools. https://psychologyonions.substack.com/p/i-really-thought-i-had-a-point-to
I'd like to humbly submit my recent semi-horror story from South Africa, in which an untimely novel, some outrage engineering, and two missing girls combined to inspire thoughts of how to kill a man with a garden tool:
