Noah Berlatsky, parent of a transgender child, writes poignantly about how fascists start with attacking the most marginalized group, and then move on to the next, until no one is left to stand for you.
If you have been puzzled as to why the Proud Boys targeted a Drag Queen Story Hour, or the rash of transphobic legislation, I suggest reading Berlatsky's piece.
Public Notice tracks and explains right-wing media (and the January 6th hearings), embedding clips and tweets seamlessly into the narrative. I highly recommend subscribing.
Jessica’s article is so deeply moving. It lead me to go on and read more of her Substack. What I found was troubling. She is in tears (and rightly so) over what she will tell her daughter now that her right to bodily autonomy has been taken. Yet in other vaccine related articles she supports censorship and mandates. As the mother was f 4 daughters I mourn too, I mourn that bodily autonomy seems to be a thing of the past. Our daughters can’t decide what goes into or comes out of their bodies any longer. What I can’t reconcile is how anyone can be so vehemently pro body autonomy and not see the huge glaring contradiction to support it in one instance and not the other. I have posted the same commentary on the posts of those who are anti mandates but also anti abortion. Sometimes it feels like there is no middle ground left in the world.
Ah lovely! We know and love Jo's illustrations, but I hadn't seen her Substack before! HOW how could I have missed this! Thank you so much for sharing, it's brilliant!
Exquisite writing, today!

Loved a Steve Schmidt’s essay about the Pilgrims and his July 4th essay.
The Perils of Audience Capture - by Gurinder who writes The Prism.
Really hit home for me as I was guilty of this in my previous career.
