Colu, since you posted on clams, I thought you'd enjoy this post on making clam chowder: https://open.substack.com/pub/trustedtables/p/what-happens-when-home-cooks-recreate?r=2iyu8g&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web.

Kate, the narrator on the videos, is "a natural" and the recipe is damn good.

Thank you for your charming post.

Anne

PS: Looks like you have to cut and paste the link into your browser. I couldn't figure out how to make it a live-link.

I'd love to see an entertainment/TV/movies themed Substack Reads. There are so many worthwhile Substacks and I feel as if this is an area that doesn't get as much love as some other culture-related topics.

Well, there was alot to take in, in "It's Okay to be Patriotic" and it seemed a little condescending. Many of President Kennedy's dreams were to build on America's basic foundation, not to erode them. The author seems to imply that the "USA" crowd are fanatics. They are not. Their patriotism has been stifled so long that they are letting the country know we are still here. Whether you agree with the US getting involved in conflicts, many of them fought in wars for this country. Honoring and respecting our flag is very personal. When someone burns it or disrespects it, they are desecrating their brothers and sisters who fought along side of them. Sorry for the rant, but next to maybe get a different perspective from the "USA" crowd.

My 2cents, it's OK to be patriotic, it's OK to eat clams, and it is especially OK to NOT have friends. One thing I have learned in my 78yrs is it is far cheaper to have NO friends and that person in the mirror is the ONE you can ALWAYS rely on (and your dog) ;-)

I enjoyed this break from political angst. Thanks! It is fine to be patriotic, but I suppose it is fashionable among younger folks in NYC and the East Coast (where I do not live) to affect a world view that is supposed to be "sophisticated." We are lucky to live in the US, with all of its warts. Just keep working on it.

Monkeypox is a viral illness that presents with a range of symptoms. Here's what to look out for:

1. **Initial Symptoms** (within 1-3 days after infection):

- Fever

- Headache

- Muscle aches

- Back pain

- Swollen lymph nodes (a key distinguishing feature from smallpox)

- Chills

- Exhaustion

2. **Rash** (appears 1-3 days after the fever):

- The rash usually starts on the face and then spreads to other parts of the body, including the hands, feet, and mucous membranes (mouth, genitalia).

- The rash progresses through different stages: macules (flat discolored areas), papules (raised bumps), vesicles (small fluid-filled blisters), pustules (filled with pus), and finally scabs that fall off.

3. **Additional Symptoms**:

- Sore throat

- Cough

- Difficulty breathing (if the respiratory system is involved)

- Eye redness or conjunctivitis (in some cases)

Monkeypox symptoms typically last for 2-4 weeks. The severity can vary, with some cases being mild and others more severe, especially in people with weakened immune systems.
