You are not only the Goddess of Substack, you took a tired genre (old white men sending emails) and set it off like a rocket! And NOW you turn out to be the single most gorgeous, mad, brilliant, merry Interviewer to smack our dim-witted little inboxes!
Reminds me of a networking tip I saw, probably around the same time y’all were talking (in the dog days of the pandemic while I was laid off). Jimmy Fallon is a great interviewer because he asks a ton of questions and is genuinely interested in what his guests say. Ask questions, then listen, without any desire to put your own two cents in.
How refreshing to hear the unvarnished, witty, humble and authentic voice of someone I’d never heard of. I am South African resident in Portugal hence my ignorance of this legendary figure.
Great to hear more about E. Jean. She sounds like a darling and I especially love the description of Substack as a “hailstorm of brilliance”. Apt words, indeed.
This was lovely writing. It's so wonderful when people manage to be so kind to other people with graciousness and humor! Well done, Sophia! You have given as one should receive :), as John Steinbeck would say!
when i grow up i wanna be just like E. Jean Carroll
SOPHIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Gawd, woman, what a surprise this was!
I loved everything -- everything! -- about this. Happy subscriber to E. Jean's Substack 🙌
What a breath of fresh witty air! She seems to elevate a lot of people, that is a gift!!
Gee, I thought this post was fun...

"What is freedom for a writer?"
"Everything. Absolutely everything."
YES!

I came to Substack for Blackbird Spyplane but I’ll be reading the fly Miss E. Jean first.
Oh how I love this so much! What a fun series!!!
