Why did I even get up? ;-) One thing in favour of algorithms; they don't careen to Kareems very often. I'm sure you have your place, fella, but not my cuppa at all, sorry.

Great picks for weekend reads. RIP Gawker, feel you. Not sure newspapers are extinct just more like wild pandas or koalas but without state subsidy..l

First time reading all of your stuff you’re quite talented and funny! Two things I like in a person you’re also a little crazy very necessary in today’s world. Keep on going doing what you do and may success at the top be yours.

This array of offered substack reads comes off as a city-based millennial circle jerk. People full of themselves and feet solidly planted in a self-produced world. You all oughta be writing for the New York Times. Now there's a contribution to society!

But what do I know, just a 70 year old who still climbs the hills and pulls the long shifts with 25 year olds who have figured out a common ground of tech and the real world. I pray they will someday be the ones in charge.

I've loved some of Kareem's recent subway interviews! Love to see his roundup here.

I like some levity in my life. I also relate to a schizophrenic nature of interests. Will check out a handful of these recommendations. Thank you.

“Schizophrenic”, does that relate to your hobby or field of work?

@kareem Excellent Read!! God bless!! I face the same issues… how can you stick to one topic…when the experiences of one’s life are so vast and varied… yet, Yes as you rightly said Algorithms like them too because they are horses with blinders or blinkers - that’s the only way they can perform well.. I have been called inconsistent for sharing political spiritual views 🤣🤣🤣 but let me tell you they are all part of what I do… Career building.. thank god for Substack!!!

Thanks for all the recs, Kareem! I just want to say that I love Subway Takes. My husband and I moved from Sunnyside, Queens, to Asheville, North Carolina back in December 2020 after having our first child in April 2020. Our lives were drastically altered in myriad ways, but we still miss the good ol' days of living in NYC in our early 30s. Your creative project, Subway Takes, takes me back to the random, interesting, and memorable happenings underground. Thanks for bringing quality comedy via a very unfunny place: Instagram!

It seems that you are a very curious person, otherwise why do you feel all this hesitation, confusion and curiosity towards talented places and people in society? Do you have a feeling of inferiority and lack of self-confidence?

Wow! That was how you read it. I’m amazed.

Yuck. This is the bad part of Substack. Superficially created trend spotting and portraying whatever your scene persona is online. This reminds me of MySpace or Facebook or heaven forbid Vice. Substack is supposed to be advancing thought not vacant consumption.

Hmm… I think I like this part of Substack Herbert.

Love all this stuff, but I gotta stick my head out here...

I just started my own Substack, as I'm fresh out of prison as of last year. It's a 100% newsletter where I review movies from my time in prison (late 2014-early 2023!) that I never got to see while I was incarcerated. And each review leads into a discussion about a criminal justice or incarceration issue. And, despite that weight, it's fuckin' FUN.

PROS:

-Movies. (I know my shit, but I won't nerd you into oblivion)

-Jokes.

-Five times a week (sometimes more).

-Interesting criminal justice info (we're all criminals, know your rights, don't become a sucker)

-Crazy firsthand accounts

-Occasional name-dropping (I did time with Paul Manafort!)

-100% free free free.

CONS: None!

I'm still fresh out of the pokey, literally starting from the bottom, and I have ZERO interest in joining any of these bullshit social media sites like Facebook or Insta. So I could use all the attention y'all can give.

I love pushing other peoples' work, but sometimes you just gotta put yourself out there. Meet me at the theater, people.
