Substack Reads is designed to showcase the remarkable work and fascinatingly varied perspectives that have found a home on the platform. We welcome thoughtful criticism and conversation, but comments that are off-topic, rude, disparaging, or derogatory will be removed. In other words: If you can’t say something kind, at least say something interesting.
This energy reminds me the early stage of fashion blogging, when we first got some invitations. There was something fresh, insightful. Love the fact that Substack community is covering fashion month and providing other angles.
It is hard to look at any aspect of the modern world without hitting a wall of wtf, how did we get here, and what do we do now. Before getting to answers (should there really be any), a robust critique of the status quo is imperative. Each industry taking a cold hard look at itself to understand both it's values and harms. If I were an investigative journalist interested in both fashion and future, why not use this period to dig in.
This isn’t fashion. Femininity doesn’t have to be attached to sex like these clothes disgustingly show. We need to get back to our heavenly father’s rendition of beauty. It’s very sad.

Thank you for sharing these great creators on Substack! I love how nuanced and original
their perspectives are compared to the more mainstream fashion coverage.
Good Grief! If that’s fashion I want NO PART OF THIS!

I agree! There’s nothing fashionable here!
I do love a round-up (not the weedkiller OBVIOUSLY)
Halloween Costume Store would as beneficial

Still looking for more from the dress scholarship community (historians, curators, etc.)
I debuted a collection at NYFW last year , it was a whirlwind! Wrote about my artistic approach to fashion here-

Fashion industry excitement died when Joan Rivers did…
How long will the fashion industrial complex be ignored in its harsh environmental and societal impacts?
JC, Every time I read or think of a way to disentangle fashion, or anything for that matter, from its harsh effects on our planet, I find it gets
tangled up in something else. Do you have solutions?
