Came for Chloe, stayed for near-death experience and was rewarded with chocolate from a 26-year-old gift certificate. Wow. What a fabulous collection - thanks!

Nadia, thank you so very much for your generous inclusion of Death & Birds, and your kind words. Also very happy to have been introduced to Some Guy! Thank you, thank you (from one hopeful cynic to another)

These weekly reads are becoming worse. Substack needs a Revolution to keep the platform more entertaining and less boring.

Expand full comment

Dude, you leave this comment every week. If the platform is so boring, why are you still here after all these months? You even left yourself a comment from another account. 😅

The thing I appreciate most about this is that it’s not just filled with posts published in recent days. It’s truly a compilation of best-ofs for the month of August. Respect.

Stopped reading at ‘female pastor’. Female clergy are the #1 source of heresy worldwide

Expand full comment

Whoa. Dope.

Makes me want to be a female pastor!

I’m over here banging two rocks together and they seem like they got this heresy thing figured out!

Expand full comment

Nothing more low-T than making dumb jokes about being the worst heretic. Lift and get your levels checked

Expand full comment

Oh bud… so hard to live without the last word, isn’t it?

Expand full comment

Third Wave feminism has really destroyed men.

You even argue like a girl. Did Mama clip your balls off early?

Repent from your heresy or God will get the last word as you—and potentially I, unless the Lord has mercy—burn in eternity.

Whoever gets the last word at that point, will be irrelevant.

Expand full comment

But is it? Irrelevant I mean.

No shade.

Just asking.

If either of us, or both, are burning in hell at that point, whoever won this argument will be the least of our problems.

She writes "I’m a sucker for anyone who will be honest about something that you’re supposed to not admit to.".... I wonder if she'd be honest about being Jewish and not actually believing Jesus is the Messiah? I can't prove that but the patterns are all there, down to the hyphenated name. Female pastor lmao what a joke.

Oh M Kevin Cook!

How dost thou proclaim

fealty, honor, integrity, all,

while farming for drama

on an endless scrawl?

Expand full comment

Gay. I don't farm for drama, this satanic nonsense was "pushed" on me.

Expand full comment

Oh M Kevin Cook!

I see you

on a street corner

speaking with a

trench coat man,

who mumbles,

“Hey kid!

I got this satan stuff!

Wanna try a pinch?”

And you do.

And suddenly everyone is gay (including me)

women are pastors.

All is as it “shouldn’t be.”

Let me ask you- what is so incredibly wrong about a woman singing Godly songs?

What is so wrong about a sister in the Lord instructing you in the paths of righteousness?

Perhaps you are concerned that you will say “lord! Lord! I am one of your faithful!”

And he will say “depart from me I never knew you.”

If you are concerned then have faith, release God from within your clenched, male fist and if he is real he will return to you.

And if you are not concerned about Christ never knowing you, then perhaps you should be.

Women's brains are wired to be the antithesis of reality, tuned to emotion and fear. There's a reason women are not permitted by Abrahamic religion to be leaders of congregations (except Judaism, an abomination). I don't even think they're supposed to lead women only groups. Why the fk do you speak in poem, its gay.

It is at this point

in such talks

that I begin to wonder about

the eyes and hands and brain

on the other side of the screen.

I look beyond them you being mean

to what you mean.

Are you twelve?

Are you, like me, one raised to believe

your way down certain streets and not others?

Does your sense of “home” come with

the price tag of exclusion? A certain form of belief?

Are you a withered man of middle age for whom the world held and holds nothing but disgust and disdain? Do you turn to mocking women with your mates as the only form of understanding you may ever know?

Or are you pure essence of troll? Do you do this for the likes? The reposts? The extensive responses from poetically absurd writers like myself?

What reality have you known to make you say “the earth has unrealities as the internet does, and woman is of them?” Was it the reality of fists and open hands?

Are you autistic? Do you see the world in resplendent binaries that I cannot ever understand?

Whatever you are: I wish you more compassion than you’ve ever known.

You are beautiful, whole, and important just the way you are.

(Evan if you are totally gay).

“Dignity” and “seeing divinity in ALL people” even when difficult impact me. Reminds me of a mix of Ignatian principles and Catholic Social Teaching. Thanks for writing!

Nadia is a gem of a person. I got the chance to meet her and hear her speak in Colorado a few years back, and she was just as genuine up close as she is in her writing. We need more people to be their whole selves, and Nadia sets an awesome example of that.
