Waiting for that article on Biden's attacks on free speech.

Oh hey an interview with a noisy academic whose schtick is to assert that freedom of speech is a favorite tool of fascist authoritarians, which we know is true because she's an authority on authoritarianism.

How compelling.

Seriously interview someone interesting from the other side of the aisle, like Soldo or Chris Bray.

I see what you’re doing, John, using a pejorative term like “noisy” to describe Prof Ben Ghiat ... rather than taking the time to seriously offer an opposing view to the well-documented history (“noise”????) that she presents in Strongmen, that posits that there is a strong historical similarity in the fascist movements that brought Mussolini, Hitler, Franco to dictatorial power and the present autocratic regimes of Putin, Orban, Erdogan, Xi that Trump is using as a blueprint for his own attempt to become dictator of the US

Another promotion of a dead-eyed menticided system slave. Just like the promo of the CDC propaganda office masquerading as "Katelyn Jetelina" mentioned at the beginning of the article. Why do you promote these cringy frauds, Substack? Can you at least pretend to be balanced?

Please click on Sasha’s substack activity -- just polished up “Plan-demic” anti-vaccine disinformation... promoted as exposing the real truth that the vaccines are designed to kill you ... yadda, yadda, yadda

It's really simple. Anyone who uses racism, immigration and othering of some outgroups, dehumanizing foes are going down the path to fascism. Appeals to unity and nationalism.

These are leaders following in the footsteps of Mussolini. Starting with Meloni, Ergodan, and Orban of Hungary.

Orban has been such a hero to the American far right that Tucker was fawning on him.

Ms. Ben-Ghiat is a historian of fascism and more than likely knows more about this topic than either of us.

Oh wow, Yuri, you are offering quite the tutorial on how those using the disinformation strategies of the Kremlin to brainwash their fellow Russians, are using them to brainwash we Americans ... except you’re the one flooding the zone with propaganda.!!!

Donald Trump may be a narcissist but he's not a 'fascist'. He may be vain but he's not an 'authoritarian'. Any one who needs this pointing out to them must be rather unsubtle as a people-watcher. Their thinking about our 21st c. Western political malaise must be rutted in fanciful mid 20th c. illusions about our 'democracy' that take no account of how much bigger problems it now has than any Donald Trump-type populist. Not very lucid.

Is it just me or is Substack unable to bring on interesting guests on their podcast? 🤔 For Substack to succeed and to boost writers they should bring guests from different backgrounds to guest or even to write, just like Kareem Abdul Jabbar. Just focusing on unknown writers doesn’t make it interesting to read or listen these featured stuff.

Such strange logic, Raisini: a writer that I am not interested in, and is unknown to me, must, therefore be an unknown writer to the vast majority ... and an uninteresting writer for Substack to interview. Or perhaps another tack, Raisini, you’ve hopefully heard of others like Tim Snyder or Jason Stanley or Paul Mason or Heidi Cuda ... (all experts in the fascist firehose of propaganda seeking to brainwash our citizens to embrace a dictatorial strongman) ... and whom Ruth has shared conference podiums, televised media news panels, publication writing with.

She actually called a couple of thousand unarmed, middle- aged and elderly people ambling through a government building, a "coup attempt." I don't think there's much to be gained from reading her ideas.

Totalitarianism must be “right wing” and state overreach and thought control is justified if done by the left. I came to Substack to evade these sorts of naiveties. New York academics do not have a grasp of the big picture.
