Introducing new ways to listen to your inbox
Substack is launching new tools so you can listen to great writing on the go
This week, we introduced new tools that will allow you to listen to your favorite Substack writers and their work. When you download the latest version of the Substack iOS app, you’ll find a new option to play an audio readout of posts from Substacks you subscribe to.
Some writers may record a personal read-aloud version of their written work, which we call a “voiceover.”
For example, historian Florence H R Scott reads aloud their latest post on the women of early medieval England in their Substack Ælfgif-who?.
Novelist Mary Gaitskill used audio embeds to share an interview with debut author Lillian Fishman in her Substack Out of It.
Substack posts are also listenable via text-to-speech technology in the Substack app, allowing you to listen to posts that don’t have a custom voiceover.
To try this feature out today, make sure you have the latest version of the Substack iOS app.

I appreciate the work you guys do. I’m absolutely in love with Substack!
This is a great idea. I was wondering the other day why more reading sites (like Amazon's Kindle) don't provide this feature.
